Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Butter

  • 1 cup Self raising flour

  • 1 number Egg

  • 0.25 cup Milk

  • Syrup

  • 2 cups Water

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • 2 tbsp Butter

  • 0.25 cup Golden syrup

Directions

  • Rub butter into flour with fingertips.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the egg and milk and stir into the flour mixture.
  • Using a tablespoon, roll mixture into balls.
  • Combine syrup ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil.
  • Carefully drop dough balls into syrup and boil for 20 minutes. Do not overcrowd saucepan as the balls will expand.
  • Remove balls from syrup when puffy and golden. Drizzle with syrup. Allow to stand for 2 minutes before serving.
  • Recipe Hints and Tips:
  • Boiled Golden Syrup Puffs are suitable to freeze without the syrup for up to two months.
  • Sprinkle icing sugar over the tops and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

    I don’t know what I did wrong but this turned out more like pudding balls in a self saucing butterscotch sauce. Yummy. But nothing like your beautiful picture. Not sure what I did wrong?

      This is very similar to old fashioned Golden Syrup Dumplings which don’t look fried like in this picture but sound very much like yours do Monica. Also mine only take 6-8 minutes to cook once you put them into the syrup.

    Not like the picture but still was good, next time I will simmer them instead of boiling mine started to burn.
