Christmas Sugar Cookies are a traditional American Christmas recipe.

They are sweet and buttery with a crisp outside. They are perfect to use with cookie cutters then decorated with royal icing.

Method

  1. Beat together the butter, vanilla extract and caster sugar until light and fluffy.

  2. Add the plain flour, custard powder, egg yolk and egg and mix until the dough is combined.

  3. Lightly knead the dough and wrap in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for half an hour.

  4. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

  5. Roll out the dough (it's easier to roll it out between two pieces of baking paper) until nice and thin.

  6. Use cooking cutters to cut out the required shapes.

  7. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for 10 minutes or until golden.

  8. Decorate as desired!  These also make great Christmas gifts!

  9. Christmas Sugar Cookies dough is suitable to freeze for up to two months. Roll into a ball or log and cover with plastic wrap.
