Tapioca Treat

Tapioca pearls on a wooden spoon, ready for cooking or baking.

Tapioca is most commonly recognised as squishy pearls that make up Bubble Tea and Tapioca Puddings. SAHM has come up with a unique recipe for a side dish that really brings this relatively unknown ingredient to life!

A creamy, kid-friendly tapioca pudding made with just three ingredients—simple and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250ml) milk

  • 1 tbsp white sugar

  • 2 tbsp small pearl tapioca

Directions

  • In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and tapioca.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens—about 10–15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat once tapioca is translucent and mixture is creamy.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving warm, or chill in fridge and serve cold.
  • Optional: top with fresh fruit, honey, or cinnamon before serving.

Notes

  • Double the batch for bulk cooking—leftovers keep for 3 days in the fridge.
  • Use coconut milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Great for babies and toddlers when cooled.
  • Stir regularly to prevent sticking or burning.
  • Add a drop of vanilla extract for extra flavour.
