Ingredients

  • 30 gram Butter

  • 1 2/3 cups Plain flour

  • 1 tsp Baking Powder

  • Vegetable Oil-to deep fry

  • 380 gram Caramel

Directions

  • Place butter and 1 1/4 cups water in a saucepan over moderate heat; cook and stir for 3 minutes or until melted and combined.
  • Add flour and baking powder; cook and stir for 2 minuted or until mixture comes away from side of pan.
  • Transfer to a heatproof bowl. Cool slightly
  • Heat oil in a large heavy-based saucepan over moderate heat (oil is ready when a cube of bread crisps quickly without absorbing oil)
  • Line a baking tray with baking paper
  • Spoon dough into a cloth piping bag fitted with a 1.5cm star nozzle. Pipe 12 x 12cm lengths of dough onto prepared rety, cutting ends with a sharp knife.
  • Using a spatula, transfer churros (in batches) to hot oil.
  • Deep-fry for 4 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer to paper towel to drain.
  • Serve with caramel or melted chocolate
