Ingredients

  • 8 number Chicken drumsticks

  • 1/2 cup Thousand Island Dressing

  • 1 packet French Onion Soup Mix

  • 1 (100ml) Orange and Passionfruit Juice

Directions

  • Place the chicken legs or chicken maryland pieces into the slow cooker.
  • In a jug mix together the Thousand Island dressing, French onion soup and juice.
  • Mix until well combined and pour over the chicken pieces.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 – 5 hours or until the chicken is starting to fall off the bone.
  • Serve on Fried Rice and with a fresh salad and crusty bread.

Notes

  • This Slow Cooker Tropical Chicken is suitable for freezing.
  • Allow to mixture to cool before sealing in a ziplock bag for up to two months.
  • Orange and passionfruit juice can be substituted for standard orange juice or orange and mango juice

The sauce, made with thousand Island dressing, french onion soup mix, and a delightful blend of orange and passionfruit juices, creates a balance of sweetness and zest, enhancing the natural richness of the chicken.

The preparation is straightforward: the chicken drumsticks are placed in a slow cooker, covered in the tropical-inspired sauce, and left to cook on low heat for 4-5 hours. This long, slow cooking process ensures the chicken becomes fall-off-the-bone tender while fully absorbing the complex flavors of the sauce.

The result is a rich, aromatic dish that pairs wonderfully with fried rice, fresh salads, or even crusty bread to soak up every last drop of the delicious sauce.

Whether you’re a fan of sweet and savoury combinations or just looking to try something new, Slow Cooker Tropical Chicken is sure to be a hit!

I tried this, and the chicken flavour is so yummy. We did find that the sauce was too rich to drizzle over the rice, so will make a few adjustments to suit our family 🙂
