Slow Cooker Devilled Sausages

Delicious slow cooker devilled sausages with rich tomato sauce and herbs, perfect for easy family di.

I haven’t made this recipe in years! So, it was good to grab out the old Slow Cooker and have this bubbling away in the kitchen all afternoon. It is a really nice way to make something a bit different with sausages.

Now, the secret to really good slow cooker sausages is to only cook them over the four hours – they aren’t the sort of food that can really withstand a whole day of cooking without breaking apart and being tasteless.

You can use any sort of sausages in this recipe- chipolatas are particularly good!

Make sure you serve this with some cheesy mashed potato and greens. The kids will be lining up for more!

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 2 tsp curry powder

  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

  • 250 g sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped

  • 2 tsp fresh garlic, crushed

  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes

Directions

  • Turn your slow cooker onto the LOW setting to start heating.
  • In a frypan, brown the sausages until they have a golden colour all over.
  • Place the diced onion at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Add the browned sausages and chopped sweet potatoes on top of the onion.
  • In a jug, mix together the garlic, curry powder, crushed tomatoes, and barbecue sauce. Whisk until combined.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the sausages and vegetables in the slow cooker.
  • Cook on LOW for 4 hours, stirring after about 2 hours.
  • Serve hot with cheesy mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • You can substitute sweet potatoes with regular potatoes or carrots if desired.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of chili flakes to the sauce mixture.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed greens or a simple side salad.
  • For a vegetarian version, use plant-based sausages and adjust cooking time as needed.
Slow Cooker Devilled Sausages | Stay At Home Mum

Slow Cooker Devilled Sausages are a new twist on an old favourite. The sausages are cooked in a gravy made with tomato paste, vinegar, sugar, and spices, then served on a bed of rice. I was skeptical about this recipe at first, but I have to say that the end result was very tasty.

The sausages were tender and flavourful, and the gravy had just the right amount of sweetness. However, I did find that the dish was a bit too greasy for my liking. Overall, though, I would definitely recommend Slow Cooker Devilled Sausages to anyone looking for an easy and tasty weeknight meal.
