A mother of three has died in hospital after being critically injured in a suspicious house fire that also killed her three-year-old son.
Crystal Cartledge received severe burns to 90 per cent of her body when the fire broke out in her Beenleigh unit�on Sunday night, with her partner and three children also trapped inside.
The 30-year-old had been fighting for her life at the Royal Brisbane Hospita for three days, but sadly passed�on Tuesday.
Her three-year-old son, Baileigh did not survive the fire.�Two other children, a one year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, as well as the father of the children, are currently receiving treatment in hospital for minor injuries.
ABC has reported that police, who returned to the scene today, have refused to rule out if the fire was deliberately lit.
“It’s still under investigation, and no cause has been determined,” a police spokesperson said.
Four men, who lived in units nearby, tried to save the family and punched through glass to try to save the children, but sadly Beileigh could not be reached when firefighters arrived on scene.�News.com.au reported that an�appeal established by the Logan House Fire Support Network after Baileigh’s death has raised $11,000 for a funeral service.
It is understood an anonymous donor from Mount Nebo donated $10,000 of that sum. Network spokesman Louie Naumovski said the figure must now edge closer to $20,000 to also cover Crystal’s ceremony, as well as mounting medical costs.
