Do You Know What These Wedding Traditions Mean?

The average cost of a wedding in Australia is somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000.

This is due to the need to keep up with the Jones’ and of course to the ridiculous list of traditions and superstitions that must be adhered to.  Most of these rituals are so obsolete that no one even knows why we do them.  We just do them and cough up the cash.

Even the most modern of couples get sucked into the habits and customs of ancient times.  Most of these archaic practices are throw backs to a time when daughters were used as currency, and a groom would pay a price.  (We shall call this “The age of the caveman” or AOC for short”.  Most modern cultures have done away with this idea but as the man asks the woman to marry …. It all comes back.

Engagement Rings

Traditionally, the intent to marry was marked by the man giving the girl’s father some precious stones as a down payment if you like.  Now an engagement ring sports the biggest diamond the couple can afford.
