How to Make Oobleck at Home

For some, it’s old school science stuff, for others, its a whole new world of “Whoa!!!”. Oobleck is an example of a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it behaves as both a solid and a liquid and is, by far, one of the coolest, and cheapest art and craft projects you can do with your kids.

What You’ll Need:

• 2 cups cornflour
• Water
• Plastic Container
• 3 drops food colouring
• Popstick (or similar) for stirring
• Spoon

What To Do:

Place cornflour into a plastic cup or container.

Add drops of food colouring and stir well

Slowly add cold water to the cup and stir. Keep adding cold water until Ooblek is formed. You’ll know when it is because if you poke it really hard and fast it will act as a solid, and flow back into the container like a liquid when you lift some onto your popstick.

As with all craft activities, make sure you keep an eye on your kids whilst they are making and playing with Ooblek. Please note that the food colouring can sometimes cause kids hands and play surfaces to stain, however this can be removed with soap and/or bleach�and water.
