The Goonies – Where are They Now?

The Goonies cast members smiling in a nostalgic scene.

In 1985, a group of young curious children took an audience on a journey to find a pirate treasure in a bid to save their homes from being demolished. In doing so, they captured hearts everywhere.

The two girls and four boys went down in history as The Goonies, and three decades later, it remains a classic for children of all ages, as well as those who have long left childhood behind. The much-loved tale, in which the group overcome all the obstacles and make it home with the treasure was a smash hit, full of great one-liners and scenes guaranteed to make you giggle.

So looking back, more than 30 years since the film was released, what happened to the cast of The Goonies? The kids who encouraged everyone to look for secret pirate treasure are all grown up now, and very, very different.

1. Sean Astin as Mikey Walsh

In his childhood, he was well known as the ringleader and motivator of The Goonies crew, which was his feature film debut. However, in the years since he has made quite a name for himself, starring and co-starring in many familiar titles like Toy Soldiers (1991) and Rudy (1993). He hit the big time again in 2001 when he was cast as the hobbit, Sam Gamgee in the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic Lord Of The Rings. He’s also published a book, been seen in many TV shows, been involved in voiceover work, and has three children with his wife Christine Astin. Certainly, he’s one child actor who didn’t let the stereotype weigh him down!
