A mum has posted horrific�images of her baby boy who was struck down by chickenpox as she calls for people to get vaccinated against the illness.
Mum�Kayley Burke, from Brisbane, shared on Facebook the photos of her 11-month-old son, Elijah, covered in painful, crusted sores as he lays in a hospital bed.
Elijah was�admitted to Ipswich Hospital with a secondary infection after�catching chickenpox before he was old enough to get�vaccinated.�Ms Burke wrote:
“Vaccinate your kids people… The pictures below show you exactly why…”
She said that it has been a week since the chickenpox showed up.
“Adult chicken pox is so horrible and painful I would much rather give birth with no pain relief…”
Ms Burke�said that she�and her toddler daughter, Kaliah also caught chickenpox but Kaliah has been spared the brunt of the disease as she’s recently been immunised.
Children can be immunised at 18 months of age.
Ms Burke again�highlighted the importance of getting immunised:
“Bottom line if you don’t vaccinate your kids, your (sic) a bloody idiot … Think about the risk you are putting on other helpless kids that are too young or who actually can’t be vaccinated!”
Ms Burke told Sunshine Coast Daily�that Elijah had been refusing to drink,�with doctors believing that the chicken pox had spread to his throat.�She said that it’s distressing to watch her son suffer from the pain and itchiness. “It’s horrible I can’t think of anything worse,” she said.
