Dear Stay at Home Mum,
My fianc and I have been applying for houses to rent for nearly 6 months now, and we’ve been knocked back about 6 times because we don’t earn enough money. The house we’re in now is making us all sick because it’s infested with mice and rats and our landlord is difficult to get a hold of, let alone help us out with pest control. How do other low income families find houses to rent when noone seems to want to give us a chance?
Cheers,
Sam

Response to “Renting Troubles”
Landlords can be horrible sometimes. If you have rented before, get a written reference from your previous agents/landlords to submit with applications, it saves them chasing or phoning them up as its right in front of them.
Also, make sure that the properties you are applying for, the rent amount is NO MORE than 50% of your total income. With prices skyrocketing you need money leftover for the essentials
Do you have pets as well? a LOT of landlords arent taking tenants that have pets. Researching your area that you have been applying in will also help. If it is really getting you down, ring a previous application and ASK them WHY you werent accepted ….. it may give you an idea of why you keep being rejected constantly. But saying that, vacancy rates for rental properties are at an all time low of 1%, so really, if you have 1 property with 50 applicants, the odds arent great.
From my own personal experience, i bug them constantly, lol. i ring 2 days after putting the application in and then every 2 days afterwards UNLESS i get told a definate no then theres always a chance 🙂
Keep your chin up and keep persevering and when putting in applications, do it the same day or the morning after, the sooner theyre in the better chance you have …. good luck
