I Was Tired of Being the Person Who Had to Remember Everything. So, I Stopped. Here’s What Changed.

Menopause symptoms include hot flashes mood swings and fatigue

The end of the year has a way of sneaking up on mums.

One minute you’re packing lunchboxes and trying to remember which day is library day. The next, you’re juggling school concerts, sports presentations, family Christmas plans, holiday bookings, teacher gifts, permission notes and all the little jobs that sit behind them.

It’s a lot.

And for many mums, the hardest part isn’t actually doing the tasks. It’s remembering them.

This time last year, I found myself regularly waking at 2am with a sudden sense that I’d forgotten something.

Not one big thing.

A hundred little things.

The birthday present that still needed buying. The school form that hadn’t been signed. The dog that was due for vaccinations. The excursion payment. The swimming carnival. The uniforms. The growing list of jobs that seemed to live permanently in my head.

I wasn’t physically exhausted.

I was mentally exhausted.

As a full-time project manager, mum of two primary-school-aged children, wife, dog owner and household organiser, I realised I was spending an enormous amount of energy simply keeping track of family life. I wasn’t just doing the jobs. I was carrying the responsibility of remembering them.

And that’s the part nobody talks about enough.

The mental load isn’t just about what needs doing today. It’s the constant planning, anticipating and remembering. It’s mentally tracking future tasks for your children, your home, your pets, your family and your work, often all at once.

Eventually, I reached a point where I thought: I can’t keep being the person who remembers everything.

That’s when the idea for Load Lifter was born.

I didn’t want another complicated productivity app or another blank to-do list.

I wanted something that could help me work out what needed remembering in the first place.

Because most of us don’t forget things because we’re disorganised. We forget things because we’re trying to manage an entire family’s worth of responsibilities in our heads.

When you first open Load Lifter, you’ll find curated lists covering the things many families juggle every day: school events, birthdays, holidays, pets, household jobs, appointments and more. Rather than starting with a blank screen, you simply choose what applies to your family and leave the rest behind.

The goal isn’t to create the perfect list.

It’s to get the load out of your head.

One of my favourite features is the ability to share and assign tasks. Not because I wanted to delegate chores, but because I wanted to share responsibility.

If your partner manages the car servicing, they can own that task.

If someone else knows when soccer training is, they can keep track of it. If the dog’s vet appointments sit with another family member, the reminders don’t need to live with you.

That might sound like a small thing, but it’s surprisingly powerful.

Because often the heaviest part of the mental load isn’t the task itself. It’s being the person who has to remember the task exists.

The first time you use Load Lifter, you might spend a little time setting it up. Think of it as a brain dump. A chance to finally move all those floating thoughts into a place designed to hold them.

Then something interesting happens.

You stop starting from scratch.

The jobs are already there.

The reminders are already there.

The things you’ve shared aren’t sitting solely on your shoulders anymore.

Instead of wondering what you’ve forgotten, you can see what’s coming up and focus on what matters most right now.

As we head into the busiest time of year, I know many mums are feeling the same pressure I felt twelve months ago.

If that’s you, this is your reminder: you don’t have to carry every detail of family life in your head. And you don’t have to carry it alone.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t being more organised.

It’s having more headspace.

Load Lifter is available on the App Store and Google Play. Take one intentional sit-down this week, get the mental load out of your head, and let the app help carry it from there.
