I’ve been making this Original Clinker Slice version since the 1980s.

Clinkers, a quintessential Australian confectionery, have been a beloved treat since the 1940s when Allen’s first introduced them. These delightful lollies feature a hard, candy-coated shell in bright colours like pink, yellow, and green. Each colour encloses a crunchy, flavoured centre, with the pink typically being strawberry, the yellow banana, and the green lime. The contrasting textures and vibrant colours make these lollies a unique and cherished sweet in Australia, often sparking nostalgia for those who grew up enjoying them. You can find these little gems in the confectionery aisles of supermarkets like Woolworths, where they continue to delight both young and old.

I’ve been making this Original Clinker Slice since the 1980s, and it remains a favourite in my household. Unlike the sweeter Mars Bar Slice, the Original Clinker Slice strikes a perfect balance with its less sugary yet still indulgent flavour. The vibrant colours of the lolly add a visually appealing touch, making each slice look as delightful as it tastes. This recipe is incredibly easy to make, requiring minimal ingredients and effort, yet it delivers maximum flavour and satisfaction.

The Original Clinker Slice is more than just a treat; it’s a trip down memory lane. It brings back fond memories of childhood, family gatherings, and festive occasions. Serving this slice at school fetes and fairs is always a hit; it’s colourful, fun, and irresistibly delicious. The combination of the crunchy lolly pieces embedded in a rich, chocolatey base creates a texture contrast that is simply divine. This recipe is a crowd-pleaser, sure to sell out quickly at any event.

For those seeking a delightful and easy-to-make treat, the Original Clinker Slice is a must-try. It’s a versatile recipe that fits any occasion, from casual family snacks to party desserts. The nostalgia it brings, coupled with its eye-catching appearance and delectable taste, makes it a recipe you’ll want to make again and again. Give it a try, and experience the joy and memories that come with every colourful bite.

I know this sounds like a silly question, but how do I cut up the slice without the chocolate top breaking into a million pieces??
