Cookie Cutter Sandwiches

Creating cookie cutter sandwiches takes the same amount of time as regular sandwiches but can bring a smile to your child’s face when it’s time to sit down to lunch.  And let’s face it – we’ll do anything to get the kids to eat their lunches!

Fun cookie cutters are available at your local supermarket or kitchen shop.

Ingredients

  • 1 Multigrain bread

  • 1 Wholemeal bread

  • You can use any of your child’s favourite topping we used the following

  • 1 slice chicken loaf

  • 2 Tomato slices

  • 1 Lettuce leaf

  • 1 tsp Mayonnaise

  • 1 slice cheese

Directions

  • Using a cookie cutter (we used a car, crown and flower), press a shape of each slice of bread.
  • Then take the shape out and place in the opposite flavour bread.
  • Now top with sandwich fillings and place in a Snap Lock Sandwich Reseal Bag.
  • Recipes Hints and Tips:
  • Sandwiches can go stale if they are not properly stored.
  • You can make these sandwiches with or without crusts depending on the fussiness of your kids (my kids won’t eat crust). If taking the crusts off, simply store securely in the freezer in a Snap Lock Sandwich Reseal Bag. Once you have enough, you can transform the crusts into breadcrumbs, perfect for crumbed chicken or pasta bake dishes. This reduces the food waste in your house and lowers your grocery bill in the process. And fresh bread crumbs taste so much better!
  • Making School Lunch Preparation Fun:
  • Here is another great way to brighten up your school lunch sandwich – consider adding funny faces. We love these hilarious faces using basic ingredients such as tomato, capsicum, lettuce and onion.  You can use any ingredient you have and cut the sandwiches in various ways to add texture to your character.
