Police were alerted at Fulshear, west of Houston, after reports about the dispute. When they arrived, they found the two daughters lying outside the home in the 6000 block of Remson Hollow Lane.

Neighbors said the father, Jason Sheats, 45, was at the house when the incident happened and had watched in horror as his wife shot their children on his birthday. One of the neighbourstold Click2Houstonthat a police officer even heard Mr Sheats pleaded to his wife, “Don’t do this. They’re our kids.”

Mr Sheatsescaped unscathed, but he was taken to hospital due to his distress.

Sheriff Troy Nehls says the shooting was apparently after a family dispute. However, the reason for the argument remains unclear. He says that the two younger women had already been shot when a Fulshear police officer arrived and saw Ms Sheatswith a gun in her hand, apparently preparing to shoot one of her daughters again.

The mother was killed when a responding police officer shot her after she refused to drop her pistol.

Madisondied at the scene andTaylorwas transported to a local hospital but did not survive.

Authorities have been called to the home severaltimes previously, but it remains unclear why.

ABC13 reported that one witness said he saw Mr Sheats and his daughters running out of their home,

Further investigation showed that the motherwas an outspoken gun rights advocate. In her Facebook account, she posted a message demanding the right to keep semi-automatic handguns.

“It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns,” she wrote.

Ms Sheats also posted a photo of herself and her two daughters in 2015. She wrote: “Happy Daughter’s Day to my two amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful, intelligent girls. I love and treasure you both more than you could ever possibly know.”
