Young Mum and Newborn Son Killed in Crash in Tasmania

Truck and wrecked vehicle involved in fatal Tasmania crash.

A young mother and her newborn son died after a crash in�Tasmania’s north-west.

The 16-year-old mother, whose name was not released, has died in hospital while her two-month-old son also died following the crash that happened�at the Bass Highway intersection with Deep Creek Road in Wynyard just after 5pm on Tuesday.

The baby was in a car when it collided with a truck and died at the scene. The teenage mother was�taken to North-West Regional Hospital in a critical condition along with the driver of the car and the 18-year-old father of the child, who was in a serious condition.

The truck driver escaped injury and was treated for shock.

Police investigated further�at the crash scene for several hours and�will prepare a report for the coroner.
