A12-year-old girl recently gave birth to a baby boy at a hospital in Perth.

According to the story released by news.com.au, a thorough investigation is underway.

Inquiries were made mostly based on concerns that a child this young may have been sexually assaulted or abused since the girl became pregnant when she was just 11 years old. Authorities did not confirm if the young mother was sexually abused and her identity has been hidden to protect the privacy of the mother and the baby.

There has been no information as to who is the biological father, either.
