The Bride’s Garter
Back in the day, the garter was taken from the bride by one of the witnesses at the marriage bed after the marriage had been consummated. WHAT? Eventually, the groom threw it to prove consummation. This tradition of throwing the garter is one of the oldest surviving wedding rituals.
