Best Family Holiday Activities in Western Australia

Perth city skyline with sailing boats on the Swan River, perfect for family holiday activities in We.

Fremantle

If you’re into history – then Fremantle is the place for you! The Fremantle Prison is an absolute must – the tour is just incredible and depending on the time of year, they do ghost tours at night!. The round house is a must see but my personal favourite is the old lunatic asylum (now the Fremantle Arts Centre) – do the tour – it will send shivers down your spine. If you’re not so much into history, the cappuccino strip has fantastic food and bakeries (try The Mill Bakehouse!) and the harbour is just gorgeous. The architecture of Fremantle is incredible – and all within walking distance of the centre of town.

Then there are the Fremantle Markets – best markets in Australia! If your a little bit morbid like I am – check out the Fremantle Cemetery – see where Bon Scott from ACDC was laid to rest or Eric Edgar Cooke – a Western Australian serial killer that lived just down the road from my Nanna and was the last man hanged in WA.

Other Great Sights to See in Fremantle:

  • Fremantle Prison
  • The Round House
  • The Shipwreck Galleries (which is the old Maritime Museum)
  • Fremantle Arts Centre
  • Fremantle Cemetery
  • Fremantle Markets
  • Western Australian Maritime Museum
