We at SAHM have put our heads together and made another list – now consisting of foods we stopped buying from the supermarket. Why? Because we can make it at home!
Okay don’t get me wrong. I looove getting groceries. The air in the supermarket (for some weird reason) makes me feel relaxed. It’s actually therapeutic…. until you have to pay.
It’s not only convenient that we know what goes into our family’s meals. Making these foods at home has helped us cut our family expenses. We can save the accumulated money for a little family trip or hubby and I can go on some fancy dates!
If you loved pop tarts when you were a kid (or still love it as an adult), make your own pop tarts at home. The one at the supermarket is delicious, but this recipe makes better tasting pop tarts and you get to make a lot!
Making Naan bread at home instead of buying it at the grocery store is such a win for me. Making it costs waay less and the taste is much more to my preference. I love how easy it is to make, too!
Removing pancake mix from your grocery list will help heaps in cutting your grocery budget. Pancake mix can be expensive, especially the most delicious ones. If you opt to buy a cheaper one, you’ll need to add more ingredients to make it taste better. You’re spending more if you think about it, and requires extra work. Skip all that and make things easy – make pancakes from scratch!
If you’ve only ever eaten store-bought mayonnaise, then we really encourage you to try this Homemade Basic Mayonnaise recipe. It’s super easy to make at home, and will leave you wondering why you ever opted for store-bought in the past. If you are concerned about eating raw egg, then we suggest you should stop eating mayonnaise. bahaha
It’s hard to say goodbye to ketchup. It was hard for me to decide to take it out from our to buy list. It’s not something you can’t live without, but there are just foods that seem bland without it. Am I right or am I right?
When I learned how to make my own hummus, it made me feel like a fool who spent a lot on those store-bought ones! The homemade stuff tastes absolutely delicious and it’s incredibly easy to make!
When you realise just how easy it is to make your own Pizza Dough, you’ll be kicking yourself for ever buying it ready made. You only need TWO Freaking Ingredients.
Now pasta is really really cheap to buy but it is also really cheap to make and the homemade version not only tastes delicious it’s really fun to make, as well!
This recipe is of terrific value, makes loads and has lots of room for variations: BUT the best thing of all you can make different flavours and then FREEZE the dough so you always have fresh biscuits 10 minutes away.
I like yoghurt. It’s delicious and it’s my grab and go snack. But the price…urgh…the ones at the supermarket can be quite expensive. So I’ve decided to learn how to make it at home. With this recipe, you can add flavourings like stewed fruits or honey.
I pretty much love ice cream wherever it’s from. But when we need to tighten up the budget and I extremely want to eat ice cream, I whip some up instead of buy! This Honeycomb ice cream recipe is the bomb!
If there’s one thing our house couldn’t live without, it’s bread. The ones at the grocery store tastes great, but I worry sometimes…can I trust what’s in the bread we eat? Then recently, a friend of mine convinced me to get a bread machine. I’m glad I made that decision.
That’s it ladies and gents! Time to make a new grocery list and be sure to check it twice!
Do I need to buy this? Or should I make it at home?
Watch out for Personal Care items you should stop buying at the supermarket!
