Should Parents Send Their Sick Kids To School Or Not?

A mother has slammed other parents who send their sick kids to school.

Canadian mum-of-two’Maria Jordan MacKeigan took to Instagram to appeal to other parents to think twice about sending their feverish kids to school, especially if they are aware that their kids are sick.

Ms MacKeigan also shared a photo of her daughter, Jordan Grace, who has Down syndrome, while in hospital.

“I took Jordan Grace home. When my child gets the simple cold she may end up like this! I can’t for the life of me understand why people would put others at risk ‘because they have so many things to do’,” she wrote.

CLARIFYING AGAIN! If you read my post carefully and without judgement, I specify this frustration was towards a parent who doesn’t work, but “has things to do” and used the school system as the babysitting club! I understand I will get a lot of criticism, but please read before you reply to me like I don’t know what work responsibilities are! ” – SORRY. I need to clarify. Jordan Grace is healthy, other children are at school completely sick because their parents “have things to do” not a job, just “things to do”!!! ” – ” – Tears and anger both flowed for me at school today. She explained that along with her daughter’s condition is the risk of a’compromised immune system, which means that a simple common winter cold can cause her serious illness. She added that while she thinks of how miserable her daughter would be when she is sick, she also thinks about the other kids at school who might be brought to hospital if they fall ill.

“For your information, school is not the babysitting club. Not only are others at risk but your own child needs you to cuddle them, to love them, to care for them back to health. When Jordan Grace is sick, I think of her first, and how miserable she would be at school,” she said. “But I also think of others, I don’t want my child to go get others sick, especially those who may end up in the hospital because their little bodies can’t fight the sickness off on their own.”

Ms’MacKeigan’s post has earned both praises and criticisms from parents online.

Some agreed that’the classroom is not a place for sick children, while others, especially single parents, commented that they have no other choice but to send their sick kids to school since they have full time jobs.

While people on social media discuss about whether sick kids should be kept home than sent to school, Ms MacKeigan just want to send these words out to the rest of the world.

“If we cared more about the world around us, and not just ourselves, this world would be a much better place!” she concluded.
