The Pros and Cons of Online Shopping for Christmas

Online Christmas shopping for holiday gifts on a laptop with a credit card.

I’ve done my Christmas shopping, and I didn’t even leave the house!

Every single year, I get tied up in the usual shopping madness that is the silly season. Every year, I have fought other mums for carparks, been involved in a bit of car park road rage (usually my fault!). I’ve dragged perfectly happy children from the car into a packed supermarket and left them in a hysterical state.

Yep, Christmas time is sheer madness!

This year, however, I’ve opted for the online shop. Not for groceries though (because I live in a rural area it won’t come here” – Hint hint Coles and Woollies) BUT for all my gifts. I’ve gone the online route, and today, I’m going to try and convince you to do the same!

You see, online is here to stay and the shops are offering fantastic deals online as opposed to in-store. Sign up to their newsletter you usually get 10% off. Take advantage of online coupons usually up to 50% off.

The advantages are so huge but I’m going to list both the pros and cons below!

The Pros of Online Shopping

1. I can shop in my pyjamas, whilst drinking wine at 3 am in the morning and the shops don’t care!

2. I don’t have to leave the house to go and pick them up (i.e. avoiding this year’s annual bout of car park rage).

3. Usually get my stuff up to 30% cheaper than in-store.

4. You can shop around from store to store to get the best deal.

5. It arrives at my door step, and I can continue to pretend to be a hermit!

Be wary of online coupon sites- I have just come to the end of a 4 month battle with one to get a refund on an item that I never received. I still have 2 other items that are well past their delivery dates that I am fighting to either receive or get a refund on!! The same company breached the privacy of 200 customers in a group email and ignored repeated emails from all of us requesting contact re the missing items. This seems to be a common problem judging from my discussions with other customers, so be prepared to win some and potentially lose some on these sites!
