50 First Dates

A feel good movie about falling in love, over and over again. Henry Roth must continue to convince Lucy that he is worthy of a second date day after day as Lucy suffers from short term memory loss. Starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Another beauty starring the likes of these two comedic lovers is The Wedding Singer.

You’ve Got Mail

Another Meg Ryan classic. This time she is falling in love online all the while balancing her busy business life. Starring Tom Hanks and Greg Kinnear as well.

Sex and the City

For the ultimate indulgence in shoes, sex and shopping, then you can’t go wrong with Sex and the City. For even more glamour, check out the sequel. Follow Carrie and the gals through the fast paced world of New York, down the aisle and all the way to Dubai in the second one. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrell.

Sleepless in Seattle

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks star in this romantic classic about how a recently widowed man and single woman finding love through a radio talk show.

Dirty Dancing

What is it about this movie? Is it the tight jean clad Patrick Swayze, the sexy dance moves, the beautiful setting or the classic songs? Whatever it is, Dirty Dancing hits all the moves. Starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.

PS I Love You

Grab the tissues for this one as the movie starts off with a tear jerker as a young window discovers that her late husband has left her messages to help her move on from his passing. Starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler.

Pretty Woman

If you’re looking for something a little lighter on the emotions, then rewind to the early 90’s and enjoy some good ol’ fashion escort fun as Richard Gere falls head over heels in love with Julia Roberts, in all her prostitute glory.

Of course this isn’t the be-all-end-all list. There are plenty of other great movies out there to take you away for a couple of hours and to let you bask in the love of others, to shed a tear for the heartbreak of others and to relate to the misfortunes of others. Some other excellent movies to pick up include When Harry Met Sally, The Vow, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The Princess Bride, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Sweet November, Sweet Home Alabama and Gone with the Wind.

    The only Pride and Prejudice that should be watched is the BBC mini series. The show actually follows the book. Plus Collin firth is pretty hunky as Mr Darcy… I recommend this version over the modern movie any time which I was sorely disappointed with.
