8 Tips To Quit Sugar

4. Use natural sweeteners, not artificial

So many people are under the untrue assumption that artificial sweeteners are better for you than sugar. This is simply not the case, with artificial sweeteners being laden with chemicals that are harmful in large doses. Opt for natural sweeteners like stevia or rice maple syrup instead of sugar laden agave or honey.

As well as avoiding sugar laden foods, there are lifestyle choices you can make to help your detox from sugar.

3. Have the Right Attitude

Sugar addiction is an addiction, even though it does not have the same stigma as addictions like alcoholism and drugs. Your body is addicted to fructose, so you need to recognise it will be a struggle to overcome this addiction, but it can be done. Positivity and kindness to oneself can go a long way in your journey to overcome sugar addiction, as well as understanding that you are not depriving yourself of sugar, you are giving yourself better health by avoiding it.

2. Stop Your Sugar Eating Habits

Are you, like me, an 8:30pm, kids in bed, in PJs, on the couch, good TV show on, mandatory chocolate in hand kind of gal? How long have you maintained this behaviour? What started it? If you didn’t have the chocolate, would it feel strange? Change up your routine just a little to stop the behaviours associated with consuming sugar. Have a few sugars in your morning coffee? Have a tea instead. Always visit the bikkie tin at 3pm? Get rid of the tin and buy some apples!

1. Toss It out!

Get rid of the sugar from your pantry, cupboards and fridge. If it’s there, you will go hunting for it, so get rid of it.

As with any kind of detox or elimination of food group, the choice is entirely up to the person participating. The advice is not that everyone MUST give up sugar in every form, it is that it is beneficial to give up the large quantities (up to 20 teaspoons a day for most Australians) that we consume to achieve optimal health.

I’ve given up sugar recently. … which means giving up wine too. Holy moly. .. That took something! Stevia is great but I can only tolerate small doses of it. .. Don’t like the after taste. All over I feel much better and it really isn’t as hard as we tell ourselves it will be.

I swapped cane sugar for palm sugar which is rich in phytonutrients, minerals @ V.B.1
V.B.2.. V. B.3. V.B.6 and zinc it has a low G.I. of 35. It tastes like butterscotch, and is great if you suffer from low blood sugar as it is absorbed slower than refined sugar. I have found this a great help and I hope it may help others.
