15 Reasons Why You Should Start Using Coconut Oil

Fresh coconuts and jar of coconut oil highlighting natural skincare benefits.

Before anything else, coconut oil has been known to protect and pamper the body. Here are some of its uses for personal hygiene.

6. Moisturiser and Eye Cream

With its moisturising effect, coconut oil can help refresh the skin and keep it moisturised. Just scoop it out of the jar and rub all over your body. It can also help moisturise the skin under your eyes. Just apply under the eyes to reduce puffiness and wrinkles.

7. Toothpaste

For a more healthier way to brush your teeth, mix a little baking soda and coconut oil and brush, brush, brush!

8. Nappy Cream

Do your bub suffer from a rashy bum? Coconut oil is the answer. It’s also great for treating thrush.

9. Cradle Cap

Coconut oil can also treat those nasty cradle cap or dry skin on bub’s head. Just rub a teaspoon a day into the scalp.

10. Healing and First Aid

Coconut oil can also hasten the healing of wounds and bruises as it acts as a protective layer when applied to skin. Thus, it prevents dirt and bacteria from entering the wound thereby helping repair damaged tissues. It can also stop the itching when applied to bug bites and skin conditions like psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema.

Coconut oil is great for treating cradle cap. Just massage gently onto baby’s scalp, leave for a few minutes, comb hair with a fine tooth comb, then rinse or shampoo it out. I had to do this every second day for a week and the cradle cap never came back!
