Mars Bar Slice

Mars Bar Slice | Stay at Home Mum

Remember Eating Mars Bar Slice as a kid? It was my favourite!

Mars Bar Slice is a beloved Australian treat, adored for its deliciously gooey and chocolatey goodness. The iconic Mars Bar, introduced to Australia in 1954, is the star of this recipe. Internationally, the Mars Bar is known as the Milky Way in the United States, and while it varies slightly in composition, it still provides that signature caramel and nougat combination coated in milk chocolate.

Our Mars Bar Slice recipe is a winning combo refined from various versions. It’s so delicious that my kids would inhale it if I let them! Even my brother, who isn’t particularly passionate in the kitchen when it comes to treats or desserts, is famous for his Mars Bar Slice, so all is forgiven when he brings it to family gatherings.

One of the best things about Mars Bar Slice is that it can be frozen. Simply cut it into squares before popping them into a freezer bag, and it will stay fresh for up to two months. It even tastes fantastic straight from the freezer on a hot day!

For those feeling adventurous, you can take it a step further and batter a Mars Bar before deep frying it. The Deep Fried Mars Bar is a quirky specialty that originated in Scotland, and it’s sure to satisfy any sweet tooth craving!

Enjoy this delightful slice that brings together the nostalgia of the classic Mars Bar with a modern twist.

Ingredients

  • 3 x 65g Mars Bars, chopped

  • 90g butter, chopped

  • 3 cups Kellogg’s Rice Bubbles

  • 200g Baking Milk Chocolate

Directions

  • Grease a slice tray and set it aside.
  • Combine the chopped Mars Bars and butter in a saucepan. Stir constantly over low heat, without boiling, until the mixture is smooth.
  • Stir in the Rice Bubbles and press the mixture evenly into the greased tray.
  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave on a low setting, stirring every 20-30 seconds until fully melted.
  • Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the slice mixture.
  • Refrigerate until the topping is set, then cut into squares.

Notes

  • Ensure you stir the Mars Bar and butter mixture constantly to prevent it from burning.
  • For a twist, try adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top of the chocolate before refrigerating.
  • Store the slice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • The slice can be frozen for up to two months. Cut it into squares and store in a freezer bag.
  • Serve the slice chilled for a refreshing treat on a hot day.

I make this all the time…had this exact same recipe for years…but you can freeze it! Thaws out great if you can leave it alone long enough…tastes great straight out of the freezer too!

Have your say!
