How to Make Traditional Butter Frosting

Delicious cupcakes topped with rich, creamy butter frosting perfect for baking enthusiasts.

I use a stand mixer with the paddle attachment to create this frosting because the more you beat it the better it becomes but you can use a hand mixer if you have one.

This is the only butter frosting you will ever need!

It’s total perfection and easily be swapped between vanilla and chocolate!!!

A creamy, rich butter frosting made with butter, icing sugar, and a splash of milk or cream. Perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and desserts — smooth, sweet, and easy to spread or pipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract, a dash

  • 80 gram Butter

  • 250 gram pure icing sugar, sifted

  • 20 number ml milk

  • Chocolate Variation

  • 30 gram cocoa, sifted

  • 30 millilitre Milk

Directions

  • Place butter and icing sugar in a bowl and beat on low speed until combined.
  • Combine vanilla and milk in a small bowl and slowly add to the frosting mixture.
  • Once combined turn the speed high and beat the frosting for about 6 minutes.
  • Chocolate Variation Follow the recipe above and add the cocoa in with the icing sugar in the first step.
