Apple and Sour Cream Slice

This Apple and Sour Cream Slice is one heavenly dessert.

We love how well apple and sour cream go together. The two layers just complement each other so well.

This recipe serves 5-6 people and it’s perfect with afternoon tea and will keep your guests happy.

I meaaaan – what’s not to love? The perfect combination of flavours, this slice is sure to please everyone. And it’s so easy to make! Just mix together the ingredients, pour into a pan, and bake.

I like to sprinkle this one with cinnamon sugar on top or when I’m in the mood for something less sweet, then I sprinkle it with just cinnamon.

PS. I have tried this with pears instead of apples and it’s also super tasty!

Sweet, tangy melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. Apple and Sour Cream Slice is a classic flavour combination that is always a hit.

Ingredients

  • 1 Butter Cake Mix (340 grams)

  • 1 cup Coconut-desiccated

  • 400 gram Apple pieces-Canned

  • 1 tbsp Cinammon or Cinammon Sugar

  • 1 Butter (125 grams)

  • 1 Sour Light Cream (300 grams)

Directions

  • Grease a 20 cm square cake pan, line with baking paper.
  • Combine the cake mix, coconut and melted butter, press into baking tin and cook for 15 min or until lightly browned, cool slightly.
  • Spread apple over base evenly then spread sour cream over the top, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over and cook for 20 minutes at 180 degrees or until sour cream is set.
  • Cool in pan and slice into squares
  • Best served cold.

Notes

  • This recipe is not suitable for freezing.
  • Keeps well in the fridge for three days covered in plastic wrap.

    this is really yummy with tined peaches or tined fruit salad or crushed pineapple just make sure you drain it well

    A nice alternative also is to use the greens lemon cake mix for the base and mix the lemon icing in with sour cream, I use tin mango slices for this recipe too.

    Actually this recipe IS suitable for freezing – we do it all the time!! It’s also known as German Apple Slice. PS – it does taste great still partially frozen 😀

    I confess I was hesitant to make this but very happy to say this pleasently surprised me! My only thing was the thickness of the base so I may try to make it in a larger tin next time. But I will be making this many more times!
