10 Home Remedies for Headaches

We all get headaches at one time or another – more often than not, these are brought on by heat, stress and tiredness.

Here are some few useful home remedies for headaches (besides reaching for the pain killers!) to help alleviate the discomfort.

1. Cool or Warm Compress

Many headaches can be alleviated by placing a cold pack or cold, wet washcloth on your forehead or behind your neck. Alternatively, some don’t like cold packs, so warm compresses can help too.

2. Reduce Lighting and Noise

Bright lights can make headaches worse, so if you have a headache, it’s best to turn the lights off or close the blinds, turn off the TV, stereo and computer, and lie down with your eyes closed until the symptoms settle.

3. Lavender Oil

Just place a few drops of lavender oil on your fingertips and gently massage the oil onto your temples (lavender is safe to use in small amounts, undiluted on the skin).

4. Increase Your Fluid Uptake

Headaches can occur when you are overheated and dehydrated. Drink some cool water regularly (unless vomiting is present) and stay out of the heat.

5. Sleep

If your headache is due to tiredness, the best remedy is to lie down and have a nap if you can!
