The grandfather of a four-year-old boy who died in a tragic house fire had attempted to save his grandson, but was driven back by smoke.

Firefighters found Tyler’s body in an upstairs room of a Dandenong townhouse in Melbourne’s southeast after the home caught fire on Saturday morning.

On a�GoFundMe page set up for the family, it has been revealed that Tyler’s grandfather risked his life braving the flames in an effort to rescue the boy.�”Grandfather of the boys rushed in to look for Tyler under the bed and everywhere else but was losing air himself because of so much smoke.�Trying to get to safety, Tyler was not found until the fire fighters and ambulance arrived. It was too late, Tyler had already passed away,” it reads.

At least five�people were taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition while Tyler’s brother was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Tyler’s mother, grandmother, uncle and family friends were also in the property during�the time of the blaze.

The fire is believed to have erupted�onto the top floor of the townhouse just before 7:50am. Around five fire trucks went�to control the blaze.

Police said the house was ‘extensively damaged’.
