6. The McCaughey Septuplets
Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey were parents to 22 month old Mikayla when they welcomed their seven babies Kenny, Alexis, Natalie, Kelsey, Nathan, Brandon and Joel to their family in November 1997. After receiving ovulation-stimulating treatments and finding that she was pregnant with so many babies, Bobbi declined selective reduction and chose to keep all the embryos, saying they would put it ‘in God’s hands’.
Though they have some health issues (Alexis and Nathan have cerebral palsy, which affects their speech and cognitive skills and both need aid of a walker) the septuplets graduated from high school in 2016. Brandon chose to enlist in the US army while all the others took up study at community or private colleges.
7. The Walton Sextuplets
Graham and Janet Walton had tried for many years to conceive and had just been accepted as potential adoptive parents when their thirteenth (OMG, that’s persistence!) at fertility treatment did the trick, and on November the 18th 1983, the world’s first all-female surviving sextuplets were born. Hannah, Luci, Ruth, Sarah, Kate and Jennifer are also the world’s fourth known set of surviving sextuplets.
The babies were born at 31.5 weeks gestation in Liverpool England, via Caesarean section, at Oxford Street Maternity Hospital.
