Shark Liver Oil

As Australians, we tend to have a love-hate relationship with sharks that may be tipping over to the hate point. So, are we really that worried that we’re rubbing shark liver oil on our faces on a regular basis? Yes, we are worried about that. Shark liver oil is also called squalene, which straight up sounds like something disgusting that you might find in a sewer. Although pretty disgusting in theory, squalene fits right into the cosmetic industry. It’s easily absorbed into the skin, doesn’t leave a greasy residue, and combines well with other oils. For that reason, you’ll find it in moisturiser, sunscreen, eye make-up, bath oil and lipstick. Now that conservation is in, less and less companies use squalene in their products, but it’s still hiding out there, under the surface.
