10 Cool (And Crazy) Things Your Body Is Doing While You’re Asleep

9. You Release More Gas

The not-so-good part about sleep, especially if you’re sharing a bed with a partner, is that your body uses sleep to empty the tank of the many gases that build up there during the day. When we’re asleep and relaxed, the muscles in our anal sphincter loosen just a little, making the passage for that wind a lot easier. The good news is that you’re less sensitive to smells while you’re sleeping, so hopefully, you won’t notice and neither will your partner!

10. You Get Turned On

And now comes the good part about sleeping! It turns out that in the same way that men can get erections during REM sleep, women can be sexually simulated too. The interesting thing is that you being turned on is not necessarily connected to the dream you’re having. Your brain is more active when you’re in REM sleep, meaning it needs more oxygen and therefore, blood flow all over the body increases. And by all over, we mean all over. Your clitoris naturally swells during this time because the blood is flowing, making sleep all the more enjoyable.

Are you getting sleepy yet?
