How Many of These Classic Tv Shows Do You Remember?

Charming vintage cafe with retro furniture, warm lighting, and nostalgic decor inspired by classic T.

Television might be a weapon of mass distraction, but it’s a welcome addition to most of the homes in Australia. And with the TV, comes the shows.

Television shows entertain us more regularly than movies, and give us the breadth of story we need to really get to know all the players. There’s so much to love about the great TV shows, and so much to remember.

But we love those theme songs!

The opening credits of a TV show, accompanied by those familiar tones, are enough to bring us back to relaxed evenings on the couch with the people we love.

So, how many of these can you remember?

These are the ultimate classic TV shows, we shouldn’t be surprised came with classic TV theme songs..

15. FRIENDS

From its opening bars, to fade out, ‘I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts was the perfect song to match classic TV drama Friends. With appropriate lyrics, including the golden “I’ll be there for you, cos you’re there for me too”, this song summed up everything that we loved about Friends for an entire decade of entertainment from 1994 to 2004.

14. The Nanny

You can’t say no to this classic theme song, which cleverly pairs ‘nanny’ with ‘fanny’ for some rhyming brilliance that gives everyone a giggle. The Nanny was the lady in red who kicked butts among the posh circles from 1993 to 1999, and we remember her all too well. And let us just say we’re so glad that Fran’s voice doesn’t make an appearance!

13. Dr Who

There’s something eerie and timeless about this digitally created theme tune from the classic Dr Who. Running in two batches from 1963 to 1989, and then again from 2005 until now, the song has managed to fit into all decades, and all doctors. It puts all you Whovians into a nostalgic state for the ‘good old days’ regardless of when that is in time.

12. Cheers

Definitely the inspiration for later classic Friends, Cheers ran from 1982 to 1993. Revolving around a bar where “everybody knows your name”, the theme song sums up all there is to love about Cheers and more. It’s memorable and nostalgic, as well as catchy and full of lyrical gems. What can we say, we’d like to get away!

11. The Simpsons

This classic needs no introduction, and no words to take a place in our hearts (and our brains). After more than 25 years on the air (it began in 1989), The Simpsons is even more memorable thanks to that theme song. In fact, we’d bet that most people out there could hum the song right now, that is, if it’s not already stuck in your head.
