I don’t claim to be an expert on any Parenting topic usually – but I think I’ve got this one in the bag. Having two boys 12 months apart – I was toilet training solidly for over two years. Both boys were so different in the way they learned, which is frustrating! So I’ll share everything I have learned on the topic in my new ebook! It’s only $9.99AUD!

My two year old daughter potty trained herself the day before she turned 2. Except for poop. She absolutly refuses to poop anywhere but in her pullup… And it makes me CRAZY! She will even go and get one for me to put on her when she “has to go”. I have put her on the toilet when she brings me a pullup, but she is far too stubborn and can wait me out longer than I can , her. Any suggestions??
The only thing i can think of is to put on the pull up and then watch her really closely. The second she gets that “i’m doing a poo” look on her face whip her pull up down and pop her on the toilet. If she does anything in the toilet show her and get really excited and tell her how clever she is. 🙂 good luck.
my 3 1/2 year old does the same thing! she is completely toilet trained day and night for sees , but absolutely refuses to do poop in the loo! Great suggestion Loren, will give your idea a try and see how we go! right now she’s like Kelli’s daughter but mine runs around like a mad loon til she’s done! Drives me insane! hahaha
I don’t know how well this works, as I’ve never tried it myself, but can you get her to sit on the toilet with the pull up on? Then maybe try a pull-up with a strategically placed hole?
I can only suggest this as what other parents suggested, they ended up putting in a middle step where their boy pooed with the nappy still on, by cutting a hole out of the bottom of the nappy.
So there was still the familiarity of the nappy, but they were on the toilet, with the hole in it, until they could do their poo. Then I think they showed him the poo that had dropped through to the toilet and that it was all safe and ok and fine.
Not sure if this will work for you, but you’re not alone!
My son is almost 3 Nd we have toilet trained him recently. Dry at night and during day. Only issue we have is he won’t use a toilet anywhere but at home. Any tips on this one?
Do what I did and get in the shower. My eldest son always would get a nappy to poo in but just this one day I was in shower with him saying nappy mum nappy all I could say was mummy having shower and off he screamed I heard him getting his toilet seat on and proceed to do this biz, I got out in time to see him very proudly saying he poo in toilet I was the happiest mum that day and so was he very proud he had to call his granma.
my 3 year old REFUSES to use the toilet or potty we’ve let him decorate his seat we’ve tried getting him undies treats and bribes regular intervals everything we can think of we’ve tried i am at my wits ends
I have 3 boys. The first we trained at about 2 3/4. 4 days and we were sorted. The second trained himself at 2. Just declared he wanted to go to the toilet and just started going. So we thought the 3rd would be a sinch. WRONG! Nearly 3 and is just not ready. We’ve had a couple of times where we thought he was ready and it just didn’t work. Each time we try and fail, we leave it a month and try again. It’ll happen, but jeez it’d be easier if it happened before winter set in.
Hi Michelle, I know what you mean. My first girl was so easy to toilet train. Then my second son came along and he was done within a few days and NEVER, yes never had an accident and yet my third son, who is now 2 and 8 months flat our refuses to go anywhere near a toilet or potty. I really wanted him out of nappies before winter and before September as we are heading overseas…… I guess I will just keep trying – So fustrating though !!!! Good luck!!!
I’m having so much trouble, I have 3.5 yr old twins, a boy and a girl.. my boy will pee in the toilet in the day, but not at night, and then refuses to poo in the toilet at all.. my daughter is still not interested in the slightest… we also have a 5 month old baby which makes things even more difficult.. ive tried so many things but nothing has worked.. what do I do?? >.<
