New Way To Get Kids Active Will Make Mums Jump For Joy Too

Child jumping on trampoline outdoors for fun and exercise.

Like most mums, I want my kids outside playing… and not just so they are out of my hair, although that is an added bonus!

I don’t want my boys being couch potatoes, I want them to get up off their butts and move it and go outside to play.

Most of the time they’re happy to do so and I’m really thankful, but sometimes they’ll have a whinge about it because they want to play video games instead.

Well… what if I told you that there’s now a way to get them to do both?!

Kids' Outdoor Alien Stomp Game for Active Play.

The boys and I had the opportunity to visit Springfree trampolines and try out the world’s first outdoor interactive digital gaming system – tgoma – that encourages kids to go outside and be active. It’s a brand new way to play.

Tgoma stands for “take gaming outside and make it active”.  It is exclusive to Springfree trampolines and incorporates special sensor technology on the trampoline that integrates with a tablet device. Families can download the tgoma app from iTunes or Google Play and there are seven cool interactive games that the whole family can get moving along to.

The sensor technology tracks a user’s exercise movements, including speed and the amount of time between jumps.

The kids can even participate in worldwide competitions and compare their high scores with family, friends and other players around the world.

The concept was devised to transform “screen time” as an isolated, sedentary activity into something that’s outside, engaging, active and can be done with others.  Studies have found that some kids are spending up to 60 hours a week in front of screens and less than 60 minutes outside playing.

Springfree featuring tgoma recently won two 2016 Australian Good Design Awards in the Product Design: Sport and Lifestyle and Digital Design: Interface Design categories! The awards celebrate the best in cutting edge design from around the world.

The boys absolutely loved playing with the tgoma and I couldn’t get them off of it to go home again! They bounced around like maniacs and tried out all the games, and loved competing with each other, of course, because sibling rivalry is great like that. We’re looking forward to getting one of our very own – they are currently on pre-order and will be available in Australia in October.

Combining gaming and moving you actually get a full-body workout in the process.  And did you know that 10 minutes of jumping on the trampoline gives you about as much exercise as running for 30 minutes?  I reckon this is much better than going to the gym, so they’re gonna have to fight me to use it… I know what I’ll be spending my days doing while they’re at school!
