7. Feed Them The Right Stuff

We all know that diet plays an important role on your child’s ability to learn and hold focus, which is why it’s important to feed your children the right stuff before, and during, their homework periods. Most kids tackle homework pretty soon after school is over, which is also a snacking period. Make the most of this by getting them a minimally processed, high protein snack like some homemade muesli bars, or a boiled egg with ham on crackers. These kind of snacks, instead of high sugar ‘crash’ foods, will allow them to stay on track for longer. Also, consider giving them a taste for peppermint tea, as the peppermint herb is thought to improve concentration!

8. Have Them Write It Out

Writing something out has a marked effect on our ability to remember it, and the same is true for kids. Homework often encourages kids to read, but when they’re trying to understand concepts, you can help them along by having your kids write out the main points of the text. When we write things down, we’re more involved in the process of understanding each word, which makes it easier to remember. Additionally, having your children summarise and simplify the things they’re learning into their own words is also great for their own understanding of the concepts.
