5 Easy but Gorgeous Autumn Fashion Trends For Mums

Australian Dropshippers | Stay at Home Mum

I love fashion and read all the glossy magazines (loosely use the term: read).

Rather, I flick through the pages checking out what those overpaid, spoilt celebrities are wearing with their perfect bodies and amazing outfits I could only dream of wearing.

Celebrities who are papped “just popping to the shop in this” is my totally dressed up for the evening.

Let’s face it, normal mums on-the-go who do school runs every day have to wear practical clothes and shoes and if we’re accessorising, it’s a good day – nothing else would work.

So let’s stop comparing ourselves to over-made celebs with stylists because that is la la land. We live in reality where we are the first one up, last one out the door and last to bed and throughout that entire day, none of that time was spent on us where we could look in the mirror and say” I look pretty good today.

We stay-at-home mums get a bad wrap when it comes to our fashion choices. I really want to be that person pre-kids who spent an hour in the bathroom getting ready for work, make up on trend and hair done every day. I can’t even remember when it was just me in the bathroom.

Now, I don’t want to fashion shame anyone, but sometimes, we could make just a little effort”or none. It’s completely down to the individual. Having said that, I also think we can do better than wearing tracksuit pants and ugg boots or parading around in Lorna Jane to and from school.

If you’re bored of wearing the same old shorts, t-shirts or boring clothes, check out these easy autumn fashion trends for mums. I’m inspired to try and look the best I can”or at least run a brush through my hair wearing a fancy pair of jeans. Check out these trendy autumn looks.

1. Khaki

Khaki is huge this season. It’s such a versatile colour and is being trotted out on the runways in an army pant with heels or flats. Country Road is doing a stunning khaki utility drill pant with long pockets – perfect for day casual wear.

2. Blues Club

Anything blue is very much on trend. Blue denim shirt on blue jeans is a popular casual look. Try a darker jean and a chambray shirt for your double denim look. If you’re too lazy to put a bit of slap on, match it with a big pair of shades and you’re good to go.

3. Texture and layer

This is still very much on trend for autumn. Huge in summer with, A-line skirts, knits, floppy hats, suedes and flared designs. Slouchy styles and crochet tops with lots of accessories with big stones and chunky bracelets. Heavy knitted ponchos with lots of colour (think Three Amigos). An everyday stylish look — black skinny jeans, white t-shirt, coloured knitted poncho with camel swede ankle boots. The bohemian autumn winter look is all about texture and layering with a heavy 70’s feel.

4. The Gilet

Whether you go for a full-on fluff, faux fur or even a brushed wool style, throwing one over a printed dress will add the perfect touch. To layer wear with jeans, leather jacket followed by a faux fur gilet or wool gilet. Zara have some gorgeous and affordable styles this season.

5. The everything together look

From leather jackets to thick, woolly cardigans and sleeveless knits, mixing up these textures with woven tapestry fabrics, subtle animal prints and suedes is super easy every day wear. When mixing everything up and layering, keep your colour palette earthy and neutral. A great mix and match layering look; long sleeve black dress, wool gilet over the top, scarf with chunky suede ankle boots.

A few tips for this season

  • Invest in a few quality, durable pieces that will last you a long time, but can be versatile.
  • When buying an outfit, top, or whatever, think about how many different occasions it will suit.
  • Inject some colour. This autumn colours are khaki, blues, oranges and yellows embrace them.
  • Dress up a little.
  • Stay true to yourself.
  • Pattern, prints and layering will be your best friend this season.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix cheap with expensive (I love saying this is K-Mart with Sass n’ Bide pants).

Stay at home mums no longer fit into the demographic of glossy mags and our lifestyles certainly don’t, that is for sure, but I think we should still pop on some lippy and get something nice out to wear every day… most days… ok well, at least sometimes.

Do you have any fashion tips for mums to still look best?
