The Rockefeller Family’s wealth started with John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil. The company was founded in the 1870’s and grew to be the top player in the oil refining industry in the US. It was not long enough before John Rockefeller became the country’s first billionaire. David Rockefeller, the remaining grandson of John Rockefeller, was named as the world’s oldest billionaire before he died at the age of 101.

According to an article by Forbes, David was worth around $3.3 billion and was the 604th richest among billionaires.

According to history, the forefather of the family, Cornelius Vanderbilt is a self-made multi-millionaire in America in the 19th century.

The Vanderbilts are also known for their lavish homes, opulent parties and colourful characters that made them the Gilded Age’s poster family.

The Astor Family:

The Astor family is very prominent in America and United Kingdom. They are known not only in business but as well in politics and they are one of America’s first aristocrats. It was known that one of the Astor’s, John Jacob Astor IV, died in the sinking of the RMS Titanic in April 1912.

The Astor’s as one of the great American dynasties were known for building well-known hotels, properties and political legacies, too.

The Getty Family:

Last 2015, Forbes put the family in the 54th spot with five billion worth of fortune. The Getty family was known before for being heavily involved in the petroleum industry and became one of America’s richest family. Despite this fortune, the Gettys also has its share of controversies which somehow led to the steady decay of the family.

The Kennedy’s:

Many believed that this family was cursed due to controversies and tragedies but The Kennedys were much more known for their great legacies in politics, public service, and business. This prominent American political family has long occupied the political arena because every year, at least one family member is elected between 1947 and 2011, and then from 2013 onward. That’s a long span of time and no wonder many loved them.

The Carnegies:

This family is known to be the Gilded Age family that gave it all away. The Carnegie family’s patriarch and forefather, Andrew Carnegie, laid out the bulk of his wealth?to improve society and stimulated a wave of philanthropy. Andrew Carnegie’s legacy is a legacy of civic leadership that was continuously passed on to his lineage.
