The woman who was accused of killing a police officer in Bali has said that she was bitten by the said officer.
Sara Connor, a mum of two from Australia, was�interrogated at Denpasar Police Station on Monday for over three hours after her purse was found near the body of a Bali police officer,�Wayan Sudarsa, who was found dead on a beach.
Ms Connor’s�lawyer Erwin Siregar, said that his client has told police that she and her British boyfriend David Taylor had gone to the beach on Tuesday night.�While there, she lost her purse, then saw a man lying on the beach, and spoke to him while shaking him to wake him.
“At that time the victim was lying face down on the beach.”
Sara approached him from behind, shook him and asked ‘Where is my purse?’.
Mr Siregar said Ms Connor did not realise Mr Sudarsa was a police officer because she said he had no badges on his uniform and only noticed the man was wearing a beige shirt.
A confrontation ensued and after this,�Ms Connor and Mr Taylor returned to their room at Kubu Kauh Beach Inn around 1.30am, showered and went out to buy cigarettes, before going back to the hotel and falling asleep.
“She woke up at 7.30am as was Sara’s habit in Australia,” Mr Siregar said, adding that�no rape had taken place and the pair left Kubu Kauh Beach Inn on Wednesday, as they had always planned to.
The following day,�immigration officials went out seeking Ms Connor and Mr Taylor for questioning over Mr Sudarsa’s death. Mr Sudarsa’s body was�discovered at around 3.30am local time with 42 cuts, bruises and scratches across his face, head and hands.
Police said that a broken beer bottle was also found nearby, and the blood found at the crime scene is “identical” to that discovered at the Kubu Kauh Beach Inn in Kuta where Ms Connor and Mr Taylor�were staying.
Mr Taylor’s lawyer,�Haposan Sihombing, said that his client said that Ms Connor complained to him that she had been attacked by a “bad cop” at Kuta Beach on the night Mr Sudarsa was found dead.�”She told him that she was pushed and he lay on top of her on the sand.�She screamed and there were some people helping her. And then the police officer left,”�Mr Sihombing told AAP on Sunday.�However, it is not clear as yet who the “bad cop” allegedly was.�When asked about the bite marks on Ms Connor’s hand and thigh, Mr Siregar said that Ms Connor alleged that the police officer “bit her”.
Interrogations of the pair are expected to continue.
Meanwhile, Ms Connor’s ex-husband and father of her two children – Anthony ‘Twig’ Connor – said he will speak to the media on behalf of her family at a press conference in Sydney on Wednesday morning.
