Jody’s Book Club – September Edition

So I love to read, here are the brilliant books I’ve read as late!

We have a mix of thrillers, romances, and self-help books on our list for this month.

Let’s begin with…

1. The Girl on the Train

Debuting on February of this year as #1 on The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2015, Paula Hawkins’ psychological thriller is about Rachel Watson, a 32-year old alcoholic, who was left by her husband for his mistress. Her ex-husband still cheats on his mistress, now his wife, which ultimately leads to a murder. Rachel, despite not knowing the murdered woman, feels compelled to investigate on the case.

2. Dark Places

Written by Gillian Flynn, who is best known for her previous novel,Gone Girl,Dark Placesis a chilling mystery set in rural America. It follows the life of Libby Day, the sole survivor of a massacre that took place in Kinnakee, Kansas. The massacre appears to be a Satanic cult ritual, and Libby testifies against her teenage brother. However, many years later, she is confronted by the event again which leads her to begin a new investigation.

3. Me Before You

Me Before You,written by Jojo Moyes, is a romance novel that depicts a love story between Will Traynor, a man who had everything he wanted before he got into an accident that left him paralysed and, Louisa Clark, a woman who lost the job that fed her family.

4. Pretty Girls

This psychological thriller, written by international best-selling author Karin Slaughter, is about two estranged sisters, Claire and Lydia. When their teenaged sister vanished years ago, the two sisters went on their separate ways and, 25 years later, now live completely different lives. When Claire’s husband dies, the wounds of the past reopen and they embark on a journey to find out the truth behind the two tragedies.

5. Hooked

Nir Eyal answers questions all marketers have always wanted to ask including why some products are a hit and why similar products from other brands are a flop. Is there a pattern? Eyal shares his Hook Model, which is a four-step process which he believes subtly affects and encourages buyer behaviour.
